WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CHOOSE NOT TO FORGIVE?
What happens if we don’t forgive? Chances are we will hold grudges or hard feelings towards someone who did us wrong. How does that affect our health and life in general? It affects us mentally and physically and also impedes our spiritual growth and maturity. When we hold grudge and hard feelings it’s the same as holding negative thoughts and emotions. These can affect our health both physically and mentally.
On physical side, we can experience high blood pressure, which is very common with all time angry people. And then you’re looking at the level of stress. Too much stress can lower immune system, which can cause various illnesses. In other words, not forgiving may cause shorter life’s span.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CHOOSE TO FORGIVE?
On the other hand, what if we choose to forgive? What happens then? When we choose to forgive(genuinely) we won’t have to deal with mental, emotional as well as physical stresses that comes with holding grudge. This means that our mind’s don’t have to be preoccupied with unnecessary negative thoughts. We avoid this kind of unhealthy inner disturbance. We could then, use that space to improve ourselves, instead of slowly weakening our mind and body.
Forgiving does not only generate positive characters or thoughts, but also a chance to develop positive relationship with other people. And we need social relationships in order for us to thrive mentally. Research shows that people who have no social life have more chance of developing depression and other mental issue. This indirectly, yet surely affects our health. And that could count for living a long and fruitful life.
It seems like he has a point. The negative mentality and lack of social life can cost us great disadvantage in comparison to living a life, which has minimal stress because of our coping capabilities. This only tell’s us that one stress coping skills that we can learn is to genuinely forgive and forget.
