Ignoring the warning signs of depression is definitely NOT a wise move. If you are depress, the last thing you want is to let it get worse until it is too late. Doing nothing about it may seem like a nice move, but that’s just not going to solve the problem. You are better off knowing what the warning signs of depressions are and then, make better decisions to prevent the worse. But how could you if you have no idea what signs to look for?
No problem. That’s why in this article, we are going to discuss the 10 warning signs of depression. Note that 11 is not a complete number here. There could be more depending on the person. However, in this article, we are simply covering what we commonly see, which we hope will help you take the right actions.
What signs to look for….
1# Deep Sadness
One of the common warning signs of depression is deep sadness. If you find it hard to laugh at something or to experience the feeling of happiness, then there’s a great chance that you are depress.
There are moments in my life that I felt depress. One of those moments were scary. The reason why I felt scared is because my situation appeared to be hopeless. I felt that there was no way out. That was it. There was nothing I could do to change it. My life was unsuccessful and it doesn’t seem like its going anywhere. If you feel the same thing I just described, then you are probably depress.
3# Self Harm
There was one time that I felt truly depress and it was when I was a teenager. I was angry at the world for not being able to have a nice life. I often wondered whether I was going to have an opportunity to escape my problems. But the more I looked around the more I felt so far away from the answer I been looking for in life.
And things went pretty bad in my mind. I felt so depress that I made a decision to die of starvation. And that made matters worse because It caused bleeding problem in my stomach. Fortunately, by the end of the day, I realized how much I loved food. And so I decided I would not die this way. Haha! 😀 But this is very likely a clear sign of depression.
Another thing that you can experience as warning signs of depression is that you’re changing moods very quickly. You’ve probably heard Katy Perry’s song before, which is called Hot n Cold. In the lyrics she said this,
‘Cause you’re hot then you’re cold
You’re yes then you’re no
You’re in then you’re out
You’re up then you’re down
You’re wrong when it’s right
It’s black and it’s white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up.
If you are experiencing what she mentioned above, then there’s a big chance that you are probably depress. And I believe this is not just about warning signs of depression in women, this could also be depression sign in men.
5# Easily Distracted
Being easily distracted is another warning sign of depression. Do you usually catch yourself working on something and often not finishing it? Even if your are doing something important, if you are easily distracted is a sign of depression. However, this is not always the case. Being distracted is normal, but to an extreme case this could mean part of depression symptoms.
6# Delusion and Hallucination
Ever catch yourself seeing things that can’t be seen by other people? Do you or know someone who talk about stuff that seem to be far-fetch and out of the realm of human beings? Delusion and hallucination are not normal. So if you see this signs, chances are these are serious signs of depression.
7# Loss of Interest
When I’m not depress I’m the kind of guy who likes to read, go to the gym, write and having this earnest desire to improve myself. But when I’m depress I simply don’t want to do any of these stuff. I don’t even want to spend time with friends or family. I just wanted to be left alone or lock my self up in the room and play video games all day. Sounds familiar?
8# Lack of Energy
Another warning sign of depression is the extreme lack of energy. I meant, not being able to do things that you need to do or even want to do. You feel sleepy most of the time and all you want is to stay in bed. If this is happening to you or someone you know then, you or that someone you know maybe depress
9# Sleep Too Much or Too Little
Now, obviously, lack of energy is tied with sleeping too much. But not only sleeping too much, warning sign of depression also occurs when you sleep too little. There were times that my mind felt so bogged down and I just couldn’t sleep. I would close my eyes and still my mind is running. And as I lied down and try to sleep, I would have tears falling from my eyes for no apparent reason emotional.
10# Sudden Weight Loss or Gain
And lastly, there is this sudden weight change. A person who has a normal psychological condition would not experience sudden weight gain or loss. Not unless it’s deliberate through exercise or calorie intake amount. Sometimes depression can make you eat more than usual and sometimes could make you lose interest in food. So also watch out for those signs.
Having experience one or two signs that are mentioned above may not mean you are depress. So don’t judge your condition too quickly. To really find out the chances of depression, you have to see multiple signs listed above. The more signs you experience the more likely the depression is at present.
